Defensive and Offensive Counterintelligence

Introduction Counterintelligence (CI) is an activity for the protection of classified information and the counteraction of espionage. CI can be divided into two closely related elements; defensive CI and offensive CI. Defensive CI concentrates on protecting sensitive information from enemies through security measures, through the detection of breaches. On the other hand, offensive CI goes out to destabilise, deceive, and weaken an enemy’s intelligence services.
